Seattle Seahawks: Coming Under New Ownership

Seattle Seahawks to be sold to new owners, team announces - Yahoo Sports

The Seattle Seahawks surprised everyone last season. The team became dominant last season and chalked up a 14-3 record for the season. Not only that, but they enter the 2026 season as the defending Super Bowl champions. They beat the New England Patriots at Super Bowl 60 to become champions for the second time. The victory has got experts commenting they’re a more successful franchise now than the LA Rams.

The Seattle Seahawks franchise is the 14th most valuable one in the NFL. The most recent valuation put it at around $6.7 billion. But now it’s up for sale, and it looks as if the club has found a buyer. Below is a look at the sale and the family making the purchase.

Sold to the Khosla Family

After a lengthy interviewing process, the Seattle club announced earlier in July that they were selling the club to a group headed by Vinod Khosla, his wife, Neeru, who will be the primary decision maker, and one of their sons, Neal, who is expected to have a leadership role in the ownership group. The NFL reported that, according to the ESPN, the family has entered a formal agreement to buy the club for a reported $9.612 billion. The billions from the purchase will go to multiple charities, but the lion’s share of these proceeds will be earmarked for the Paul G. Allen Foundation.

The family will become the team’s controlling owner. As part of the deal, the Khosla family agreed to relinquish its ownership stake in the San Francisco 49ers. On August 26, there will be a one-day meeting in the NFL to vote on the ownership transaction, pending a review by the finance committee. The family will then become official owners of the club.

Hopefully, the purchase will boost the defending champions even further when they enter the 2026 NFL season. Although not considering them as Super Bowl favorites, sportsbooks have a reasonable level of confidence in the team’s prospects. DraftKings, for instance, has set them fourth on their betting lines, with +1100. You can check the Super Bowl odds and more at https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/leagues/football/nfl.

But who are the Khosla family?

Vinod Khosla is the founder and managing director of Khosla Ventures, a venture capital firm, and has a net worth of more than $13 billion, according to Forbes. He has built his fortune as a tech investor and as a cofounder of Sun Microsystems. His company invests in experimental technologies, such as biomedicine and robotics, and was the first to invest in Open AI. Mr Khosla was also an early investor in Google and in the online payments company Stripe.

Meanwhile, his wife, Neeru, is an educator and entrepreneur, and is the executive director and a cofounder of the not-for-profit C12 Foundation. The foundation works to advance STEM education and develops free textbooks and educational resources for K-12 students all over the world. Neeru has been the executive director of the foundation since 2007.

Their son Neal is the cofounder and CEO of virtual healthcare company Curai Health. He has a little background in sports. With his father, he purchased a 3.1% stake in the 49ers, a team where he also served as a football operations intern, according to his Linkedin account. His Linkedin profile also informs visitors he did consulting work for the NBA’s Miami Heat in scouting and evaluation while working as a data science intern at a software company.

Investing in a winning team

The Seahawks announced the club was being put up for sale just 10 days after its Super Bowl triumph in February 2026. In the last 10 years, the Seahawks have made the playoffs seven times. Ahead of the World Cup, their stadium, the Lumen Field, received $20 million in upgrades.

The Khosla family may be football fans, but they don’t have huge experience of running sports franchises, although Neal has had some inside insight through his internships. The family do understand, however, that they’ve inherited a valuable legacy and should pass on the organization better than they found it. Mr Khosla has stated that the family looked forward to building on Mr Allen’s winning legacy and that they were honored to be entrusted as the next stewards of the Seattle Seahawks.

What is very clear is that the Khosla family have taken on a big responsibility. Had it not been for their late owner Paul Allen, the club would have moved to Anaheim, southern California. Seattle cherishes the Seahawks, and the Khosla family know they’ll have to earn the trust of fans.

The Khosla family have invested in a tremendous franchise that had an excellent last season, culminating in a Super Bowl win. They won’t become the official owners until August, and when they do take over officially, they’ll have to work hard and use all their experience at the highest level of management to carry on Paul Allen’s great work.
